Resident here who has developed a Mos Burger addiction. My family caught on to this, and for Christmas my mother sent me a code via email for a 2000 yen Mos Burger gift card. No barcode, no QR code, no physical card, just a string of numbers and a receipt.
I created a Mos Burger account and downloaded the app thinking that surely there was a simple way to you know, transfer this gift card balance to my account and use it for purchases. You would think this would be the most logical thing to do. But no, in classic Japan fashion, everything online is a nightmare to navigate and makes no sense.
Through the app, I made a “Mos Card”, which seems to be a digital card with a barcode where you can load on money and pay that way. However, the only way to load money in is via credit card or Apple Pay, with the set values being only 3k, 5k, and 10k yen (which, by the way, you can’t even do in the app anyway and it opens a separate web browser page. classic.) There is no gift card option that I can see. In fact, I navigated the entire cluttered mess of the app, and I cannot for the life of me find a mention of a gift card anywhere (which begs the question, how did my tech illiterate mother figure out how to get me one? lol) I also tried the web version to no avail.
EDIT: I figured it out. Apparently, it was purchased through Amazon, and I found the listing with the instructions. You have to go to [giftcode.jp/mos](https://giftcode.jp/mos) and then input the gift card code, and then the card’s barcode will be emailed to you, which you can scan with the app under “create a new Mos Card”. Kind of a needlessly complicated process, but I’ll leave this post up in case someone else has the same problem in the future.
