I previously posted about paying taxes on eBay or Mericari sales, I found this site.

I’ve been selling old things I have laying around at home and I have made a little profit under 100,000yen. I’ve been trying to get peace of mind since I really like my job and don’t want to upset them by doing a side job.

200,000 Yen Rule for Miscellaneous Income in Japan

Does this mean certain taxes need to be paid? Just not income tax?

I’m still a little worried about the procedures regarding this. If I were to be late paying or there was an issue how would it be resolved?

Would the tax office contact me directly or go to my job? Would any tax issues be able to be resolved without the involvement of my workplace?

I really don’t want to potentially upset my employer!

I obviously see lots of people selling online, I wonder if anyone else has the experience of selling a few things online to make a little extra income and has dealt with tax etc.. I would like to continue selling but I’m worried I could potentially upset my employer. Or at worse break the law!

I have permanent residency in Japan also

Thanks for all your help on this I really appreciate it!

  1. Nothing wrong with getting back some of the money you paid back. You aren’t running a business
