I’m currently living in Japan and my phone from home is, unfortunately, swiftly on the way out. I’m here for another seven months and feel like I’ll have to buy a new phone before I go home. I’ll not be going with any of the carriers – no point getting tied into the contract – as long as I can help it. So, what advice would you give around buying phones here or what should I expect? Will a phone from the Apple or Google store be locked to a carrier – and is there any other surprises (other than the shutter sound) that I should expect buying a phone here and taking it back to the UK?
