Textbook/Learning Tool Recommendations for Dyslexic Learners

おはようございますはじめまして!

I’m currently on my [Day 165 streak](https://imgur.com/gallery/Mqnf29Y) of learning Japanese for my fiancé.

I want to take my learning to next level by actually reading the notes instead of mimicking what I see on Duolingo like a newborn baby does, and answering all questions without reading the tips and just going off based on gut feelings alone of what sounds right, just like I did for English exams.

However, when I did read Duolingo’s tips, I LOVED the artwork, usage of colors, and clickable underlined/highlighted text with extra tips that also get pronounced. [See for yourself.](https://imgur.com/gallery/geaTgas) This kind of is exactly what I’m looking for, but I want an entire textbook+virtual textbook (mainly), and more learning tools, that are designed in a similarly colored and carefully designed attention to detail way that makes learning fun and engaging.

>**TL;DR: I’m primarily focusing how the Textbooks and Tools offer good Color Usage, Text-to-Speech usage, and Aesthetics, BEFORE I focus on the desired design features. However, if it’s not possible then, “Oh well. Dx”**

# Textbooks/Virtual Textbooks (with text-to-speech)

Therefore, I was wondering if there were any textbooks:

* **MUST HAVE AN EXTREME WELL USAGE OF COLORS TO HELP ENGAGE LEARNERS AND DIFFERENTIATE KEY PARTS, TEXTS, TRANSLATIONS, AND MATERIALS IN EACH LESSON**
* Offered in both hardback and virtual textbooks,
* MUST work well with Apple’s text-to-speech voice Alex,
* MUST have lots of pictures (when needed)
* Calligraphy stroke steps
* Or if the virtual textbook’s program offers its own text-to-speech feature:
* With highlighted text as it reads,
* And includes precise adjustable voice reading speeds?
* (optional) Uses Dyslexia Font or allows for easy Dyslexia Font integration programs

# Learning Tools/Websites/Apps/YouTube Channels/Discords

Tools like [apple’s Japanese](https://imgur.com/gallery/7fWDJpR)[ romaji](https://imgur.com/gallery/7fWDJpR)[ keyboard with speech-to-text recognition](https://imgur.com/gallery/7fWDJpR) to help with practicing speaking and pronunciations or google translate to help save your favorite learned pronunciations in the way that you typed them out in Japanese.

I’m looking for tools that can:

* Practice memorizing kanji, quizzing kanji, drawing kanji, and reference kanji (all in a colorful way)
* Apps that recommend kanji to memorize based on where you at (maybe Duolingo does a good job at this, but it doesn’t go over everything)
* Kanji/hiragana/katakana calligraphy practice tools
* Discord programs or weekly scheduled get
* Together events to help learners practice and test their pronunciations and sentence forming skills with people who have trained ears
* Tools that test your pronunciation
* Tools that test your ability to remember words that are flashed on the screen for a short amount of time, and you have to answer what you saw.
* Etc

I can’t wait to hear all the answers and recommendations r/LearningJapanese has to offer!

Wish me and all the other Dyslexic Japanese Learns that this post helps, “[がんばってね!!!](https://tenor.com/bvf42.gif)” 🤗
