Hey everyone,
some boyfriends bday is coming up.
He’s a huge fan of Japanese culture, has lives there for a few months and even speaks fluent Japanese.
Are there any Japanese birthday traditions you can think of? Also, how do I write happy birthday in Japanese? I don’t wanna use google as a source because it would be quite embarrassing to get false information and do it completely wrong.
Big thanks

誕生日おめでとうございます。
Actually I can’t really think of a Japanese birthday tradition. Maybe it hasn’t been a big part of the culture. Generally people just go on a dinner or something and friends give them presents and that’s about it.
Buy a super expensive small cake. This cake must have strawberries on/in it.
Put the waxiest candles you can find on top of that cake.
Turn off the lights, light the candle. With a lighter you have for the sole purpose of lighting candles on birthday cakes.
Sing “Happy Birthday to you” very badly.
You are finished.
I prefer
お誕生日おめでとう!
or
お誕生日おめでとうございます!
Putting お in the front makes it polite yet friendly
