Hi, I was selected for the METI internship last year in embedded systems engineering and my company wanted to hire me right away, however, I couldn’t apply for work visa since it’s an engineering role and I don’t have a degree. So instead, my company is applying for the CoE on my behalf for paid internship (designated activities) visa.
At the time I was selected for the METI internship, my country’s economy had collapsed, it’s still pretty bad, and I had to drop out of college to make ends meet. However, I didn’t resign and I had active studentship, it’s just that I didn’t attend any classes or pay since the beginning of 2023. There are a few documents like transcripts and module outlines that I will be needing for the designated activities visa, and they are in place, I even got a recommendation/approval letter from a lecturer and she agreed to help with the agreement and internship plan as well, so I’m positive things will go well 🤞🏽.
I would like to know what the internship agreement looks like, and what conditions should I expect, would I be required to continue the same degree after returning? I’m planning to transfer my existing credits to an online degree which is recognized by Japan, and complete it within this year, so I’ll be able to get work visa after I return from the internship, I have no plans of continuing the same degree, because it would take at least 2.5 years to complete. Would the agreement make it possible for me to apply for work visa with a different degree?
I’d be glad if someone who had already gotten this type of visa or knows about it could answer my question.. and if possible give me a brief outline of what the T&C in your internship agreement was like, did it have anything which said that you will necessarily have to complete the same degree? Thank you!
