I (non-Japanese US citizen) am getting married to my Fiancé (non-Japanese US Citizen) soon. We both will be graduating our respective bachelors degrees exactly one year from now, Christmas time 2024. I plan on saving upwards of $30,000 By then, and have some specific questions on the best ways to move forward with one day obtaining permanent residency in Japan.
Currently, I work a remote job for an AI company, that I am not inherently allowed to disclose. This company also works with a customer (a large company) based in Japan, that I am not allowed to disclose. My job is remote, and I have played with the idea of moving to Japan with them already, even a year out. Should I go the route of seeing if my company has, or is willing to provide, a PEO for me in Japan? This would be for the normal Worker’s Visa in Japan. While the Likelihood of this is low, it is an option in my cards.
My degree I am obtaining is Construction Management. It is a 4 year Bachelors of science. My total plan overall, is to one day have a renovation company of my own to flip houses in Japan. As stated previously above, I plan on having a very large sum of money saved up, which would meet the 5m yen requirement and potentially be enough for a Business investor visa. Although this would be the most difficult option of them all, I do believe that it has potential, since this is the end goal overall.
Another option I currently have is leaving my current position that is remote, and start actively looking for work in Japan for a work visa. When it comes to this option, I am worried specifically due to the fact that I will not have finished my degree while I job search. If this is the most likely option, what recommendations do you have for me?
Overall, I have some unusual circumstances, specifically when it comes to the first option. What I am looking for is someone who may know a little bit more detail about each option and is willing to give me advice on what I should do moving forward, and what the most likely options may be. I know my (soon to be) wife will be allowed a dependent visa regardless. Thank you to anyone who’s read it all!
