8 days in late February (Tokyo & Sapporo/Asahikawa)

Hey guys wanted your opinion on a draft itinerary I am doing with my mum for her birthday. This will be our first time visiting Japan and the things to do are very overwhelming. Nothing is booked yet but we plan to go on the last week of Feb (21st – 28th) for her birthday. FYI we are flying in from the philipines so no jet lag issues here.

Here’s the draft:
21st: arrive in Tokyo at 2pm, hopefully check-in by 4ish as we’ll be taking public transpo. Rest up and head out for dinner somewhere near.

22: First Day exploring Tokyo. Hachiko, Shibuya scramble, some shopping, shibuya sky.

23: Day trip to Mt. Fuji. We are planning on renting a car for this and we don’t mind the cost as long as it is more convenient. We’d like to hit up several lesser known towns nearby to get a good view of Mt. Fuji. Do rental cars in Japan do by the hour or is it on a per day basis?

24: Head to airport and arrive at Sapporo by lunch time. Check in usually at 3 so we’d probably leave the bags at the hotel and wonder off nearby and after checking in, head out to explore. Fushimi Inari shrine maybe if time permits.

25: (mum’s birthday): Take the earliest train to Asahikawa, then head to Clark’s Horse Garden for a ride along on what I hope a snowy scenery, Asahiyama Park for penguins and then lastly a late lunch at Aoba Ramen. Take the earliest train back to Sapporo and be back for a late dinner. Heavy day and I’m pretty sure she’ll be tired.

26: Rest day. If we feel like exploring Sapporo, we’ll go for it. But it’s probably going to be a late morning, coffee somewhere and then sightseeing / MAYBE the TV Tower and mini pigs.

27: head back to tokyo for an overnight nearby haneda. We might use this day to see some other things in Tokyo but we don’t know yet. Or will use this day purely for photography.

28: flight back.

We are definitely open to staying longer if we feel like we missed put on anything. Any additional info and advice will be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
