This is lunacy.
How does this actually work in practice? The article said that one court recognises that this couple are married, but the other court says that they are not allowed to register their marriage.
Are they married, or not?
What would happen if one or both tried to marry someone different here, would that be bigamy, unbigamy, or quasi-bigamy?
I guess as a foreigner I’m lucky I can both keep y name and be married. Changing all your documents is such a hassle.
It’s all because old folks don’t want to disrupt the Koseki system. Just have to write the names down. It’s not that difficult.
