I watched it recently since I heard some of my friends talk about how ass this match was and sadly, they were right. I love Jeff but he just seemed so out of it for the entire match with botches and other stuff. I was surprised that he managed to even do his signature moves, even if they looked super rough. I honestly feel bad for Naito for his immense carry job for this match and I don’t know if his t-shirt gimmick existed during this time but that probably encapsulated how he felt about this match. Idk if this is true as well but this match supposedly fractured the NJPW/TNA partnership and took years for it to be healed.

On paper that looks promising.
If this was a year earlier or later it would have been a great match but this was not a good time in Jeff’s life

Id say this is the most disappointing. Yoshi hashi vs Okada the next year is far worse
It’s funnier to rag on Cody for dragging Ibushi to a distinctly average Dome match, so I’m gonna say that.
In terms of Jan 4th shows? Probably Rick Steiner vs Randy Savage from 2000.
In terms of Wrestle Kingdoms? Maybe. Or Ishii vs EVIL
It was pretty bad but i’m sure we can find out a few more stinkers that could rival it.
Which is crazy considering Jeff, two months later, would have that infamous Victory Road match against Sting.

Cody vs Juice from WK13 was the absolute shits and the end of a feud that basically killed Juice dead for a while even though he won
Ishii vs EVIL from a few years ago was also pretty terrible (they did have a much better one a month later at least)

Yeah this was Jeff at his non sober peak. But for me Okada vs Yoshi Hashi at WK the one where Okada challenges Tana after the match was pretty bad and Abyss vs Nakanishi were bad.
What about Ishii vs Evil? Especially because its only one of two Ishii Dome singles matches!
