  1. That is not Japanese Food.

Besides maybe Okinawa (and still doubt it), you won’t find anything like that in Japan.

That is very American/western. I would still eat it, but sorry, wrong sub.

  2. That’s American food, not Japanese. You can tell from it being covered in literally anything they could find.

  3. No real authentic asian food in America, the taste is gross, how they tryna make it more tastier. Sorry not sorry

  4. Japanese people like creative dishes arranged.

While preserving the tradition of Japanese food, Japanese food is constantly evolving.

It’s the same as Japanese people arranging and enjoying pasta and pizza.

I think that sushi like this picture will be accepted by young people.

In fact, Japanese people enjoy arranging sushi in various ways.

The Japanese idea is to “enjoy and eat deliciously” without being bound by a fixed concept.

  5. Definitely not Japanese. But some western take on sushi at a Japanese themed restaurant. At least the 7ish years that I’ve been a sushi chef at a Japanese restaurant in my younger years, that was not something that I ever saw on the menu.

Not saying it’s bad. Just saying it’s not Japanese. I’m sure Japanese people would still eat it (not all). But it takes away from the appreciation of the fish by slathering it with all that high-sodium pastes/pudding-like toppings.

  6. Just an FYI for people hating on the food, while rolls are not traditionally Japanese and you wouldn’t be able to find this in Japan, I’ve found that Japanese people LOVE these sushi rolls.

I worked for the USA branch for a large Japanese corporation and had frequent short stay visitors (3-9 weeks), and out of all of the food I would take them to, Japanese sushi rolls was hands down the most re-requested. In fact, these people would recommend their Japanese colleagues who were planning to visit to request to try the rolls.

So if you’re obsessing over “the sanctity of sushi”, just stop, Majority of Japanese people straight up don’t care and don’t need you to protect their culture.
