What are your opinions of choosing Wakeijuku dorm for an exchange student who will only be there for the Spring-Summer semester?

*All posts asking this kind of question are at least 5 years old or older so I’d like to ask again.*

I’ll be an exchange student at Waseda for the Spring Semester 2024 and now I must choose dorms. I’ve seen Wakeijuku and from what I’ve seen it looks like the best experience I could have for these 4-5 months. The active community life, the summer competitions, the immersion in Japanese culture and the fact that my Japanese level could improve quicker as I’d be surrounded by Japanese students are all the things that make me think that choosing this dorm is the best decision I could do.

However, my Japanese language level is almost non-existent. I know how to read hiragana and katakana and basic Duolingo knowledge, but I will take language courses at Waseda University. So the language barrier on the first days concerns me.

I’ve seen some different opinions regarding foreign students in Wakeijuku, ones that recommend it and ones that don’t.

What are your opinions?
