I (F26) a Non-Japanese Citizen, is a daughter of a Japanese Citizen. I am currently in Japan with my mom, also Non-Japanese Citizen, residing in my Japanese father’s property. My parents had a conversation earlier regarding who will own my father’s property incase he passed away. I thought that me and my mom would be able to share the inheritance since we are already included in my Father’s Family Registration (Koseki Tohon). However, My father said that since me and my mom are non-japanese, all of his property (Money, House, Land) will be inherited by his japanese younger sister and we wouldn’t receive anything.
I would like to know how true this is?
Or is there other ways for me and my mom to inherit my father’s property in the future?
