Have an opportunity to move to Japan but now I’m questioning if it’s right.
Hi everyone, I got an opportunity to make 20 million annual salary starting which is fantastic, but now I’m questioning whether it’s the right move to make for my family.
My wife and I are in our mid 20s. We’ve visited together multiple times and have spent probably 8 months there total. We’ve been researching moving there for 5-6 years so we’re aware of the usual things, but I’m here to ask about stalkers, creeps and chikan.
My wife is only 5’1″ and 100 pounds half Puerto Rican but looks fair skin middle eastern (I don’t know if it helps but in case it does…), when we visited we were never apart, however I fear that this won’t always be the case if we were to move there, so I’m looking for anecdotal experiences and want help weighing out the risk. This is a discussion I want to have with her, but would like first hand experiences to bring to her.
Also we would like to have a kid in the next few years, I fear what would happen if we had a daughter. I know people always let their children wander in Japan because of how safe it is, and that girls have backpack alarms, but that seems reactive rather than proactive.
My job would be in Minato Tokyo, but we’d like to move to a “smaller” town within an hour of the city, instead of right in the middle of it. We currently live in the USA, and perverts aside, the safety of our family is one of the reasons we’d like to move there.
Thank you so much!
TLDR: dream job opportunity, family and I worry about pervs, chikan, gropers, stalkers, looking for first hand experiences and if women would do it all over again.
Edit: I understand that people like to pretend it doesn’t exist, but I met multiple women while in Japan who told me that every one of their friends experienced chikan and stalking to some degree. Please don’t downvote me for caring about my wife’s safety.
