Possible entry complications due to nutrition supplements?

Hi, I am about to move to Japan (will stay approx. 1 year) and due to my diet, I rely on nutrition supplements. I still have supply that would last me atleast 3 months and I am wondering whether there might be any issues regarding the immigration process at the airport if I packed them and took them with me to Japan.
If not, would it be advised to stock up and take supply with me that would last me even longer?
Also, since I don’t know how tedious it will be to set up accounts for online shopping in Japan, can I expect to get by on supplements that I can buy in stores or are they rather expensive compared to the ones online or vice versa?
Thank you very much!!

  1. I don’t know what supplements you need, but you can get a lot on iherb or Amazon 🙂

  2. If it’s something you can get via Amazon Japan it takes like 5 minutes to set up an account (you could do it now) and they accept foreign credit cards. Check it out now and you can look at prices.

There’s also iherb, which is very popular for all sorts of health and beauty products.

  3. I get all my supplements from the drug stores here 🙂 I doubt that they will have a problem if you have supplements when entering the country. But there is information on the internet about which drugs you can bring into the country and how much you’re allowed to bring in with you. Always the best to declare it though

  4. There seem to be limits on how much you can bring into the country, depending on what it is. I only see this when I order from iHerb. Often enough, it lets me order only one or two bottles of something or other due to customs limitations. iHerb usually delivers very quickly and with no issues.

OTOH, you can buy most simple supplements locally or off Amazon.jp or Rakuten, so I wouldn’t take too much in your luggage unless you know for sure that you won’t get in trouble.
