My wife and I are travelling to Japan (from the UK) for our one-year wedding anniversary for 17 days in November. I would be really grateful for your thoughts on our proposed itinerary below. We are in our late thirties and very used to long walks/hiking etc.
It feels like we have put a lot in, but would love to get your insights on any days that are too long (or short) and if we have got the number of days in each place about right, in particular I’m struggling to gauge the size scope of Hakone.
**Day 1 -Arrive in Tokyo**
• Arrive at Haneda at 07.35
• Travel to hotel (possibly Shinjuku area)
• Explore the local area
• Head to Omoide and Golden Gai in the evening
**Day 2**
• Explore Shibuya
• Hachiko Statue
• Yoyogi Park and the Meiji Shrine
• Explore Harajuku district
**Day 3**
• Explore Akihabara
o Kanda Myojin Shrine
o Tokyo Skytree (possibly)
• Explore Asakusa area
o Dempoin Street and Senso Ji Buddhist temple
**Day 4 -Travel to Kyoto**
• Explore Higashiyama district
**Day 5**
• Walk from Sagano/ Otagi Neinbutsu-ji down through to the riverside at Kameyma-ya (through the bamboo forest)
**Day 6**
• Nara day trip
o Travel via the Aoniyoshi train
• Maples tree tunnel (Eizan railway) if there is time in the evening.
**Day 7**
• Kiyomizu-dera Temple
• Kinkaku-ji
• Fushimi Inari Taishs Shrine
• Tea Ceremony
**Day 8 – Travel to Osaka**
• Explore the city – Starting from Osaka jo-koen station and ending up in Amerika-Mura
o Namba Yasaka Shrine
o Denden Town
o Shinsekai
• Tennoji-park
**Day 9**
• Osaka Castle
• Umeda Sky Building
• Dotobori and Amerika-Mura in the evening
• Yokocho alley/Hozenjo temple
**Day 10**
• Day trip to Mino to see Autumn leaves; or
• Day trip on the Kishigawa line
**Day 11 – Travel to Hiroshima**
• Peace park
• Hiroshima castle
• Shukkeien garden
**Day 12**
• Day trip to Miyajima Island
o Tori gate
o Mount Misan hike (Daoshoin trail)
**Day 13 – Travel to Hakone**

**Day 14**
• Old Tokaido walling trail and checkpoint
• Hakone Shrine
• Hakone Yuryo
**Day 15 – Travel to Tokyo**
• Possibly go to the Open Air Museum in the morning
\- To see Symphony Tower
**Day 16**
• Explore Nakameguro area
• Nakano Broadway
• Shinjuki Gyoen
Or possibly a day trip to the Ghibli museum (instead)
**Day 17 – Fly home**
