Hello all, I wanted to get your advice on this topic.
The high you get when you comprehend during immersion is second to none. It’s the fuel that gives me massive bursts of inspiration and it will cause me to work so hard for days, even weeks, after those moments. But on the opposite side, I’ve noticed that when I don’t comprehend things when I feel like I should, it causes the exact opposite reaction. It’s deflating and disheartening, to the point where I don’t want to study as much. I’ve found myself occasionally intentionally avoiding immersion practice for this exact reason, I don’t want to get possibly deflated, which will negatively affect my studies. However, this is a double-edged sword, because as we all know, consistent immersion is very important.
Do you all find yourselves ever doing this as well? What do you do to help mitigate it? How do you get past the fear of incomprehension and push forward?
Thanks for your time.

Easier material.
If you are only occasionally understanding something, and you’re feeling demotivated by how rarely you understand something, you need to be reading/listening to easier material.
Turn subtitles on, if that helps.
If you’re at a beginner level, then don’t watch or listen to stuff way above your level just because it’s immersion or because you think you should. If you want to watch Death Note or One Piece or The Seven Samurai, go for it, but just to enjoy it, not as study material. Do something much easier when you have your “studying” hat on.
