For current active JETs, it seems some of us have already received our re-contracting papers or may receive them in the coming month. One thing I was curious about was how your school has treated you after you handed back the papers indicating that you will no longer contract for another year. Do they cold shoulder you knowing you’re just another disposable ALT to be yeeted back home in 8 months time or is this really ESID?
For context, I am a first-year JET who is curious about this aspect of the post “re-contracting” period. I don’t plan to base my decision upon this aspect at all since this really should not play into my decision, but I was also generally curious about the workplace “shift” (if there is one at all) after contracting or not.
Would love to hear from any previous JETs experience around this, whether having left after 1 year or 5 years. Thanks!
