Itinerary Check – 18 Days in early September – TOKYO / KYOTO / IZU PENINSULA

Hello Everyone!Me and my husband will visit Japan for the first time in september. We know it’s not the best time to travel there but we couldn’t chose any other date due to work plus the Plane tickets were quite cheap. We saved a lot of money for this trip and we are very excited – a dream come true! What we expect from our first trip: a good mixture of nature (especially the sea) and Cities. We love traveling off the beaten path. We are quite spontanuous (except for reservations you HAVE to do in advance eg major sights and restaurants and hotels of course)Would love to hear your opinion about our itinerary!

TOKYO – 4 Days (Sat – Tue)Trip to Yokohama/ Cup Noodle Museum, Maybe a Trip to Ghibli Museum if i manage to get tickets. Not necessary though. Apart from that: wandering around and exploring the city in pour own pace.

\- Shinkansen-KYOTO – 4 Days ( Wed – Sat)

Arashiyama and Fushimi Inari Shrine as well as exploring the city at our own pace. thank god we are early birds i guess. Nishiki Market is what we want to see as well.

\- start roadtrip! Rent a car –

IZU PENINSULA remaining 10 days
We plan on renting a car in Kyoto and driving to Izu visa Ise-Shima National Park, taking the Ferry from Toba to Irago and then driving either via Hamamatsu and Shizuoka to Izu Peninsula along the Coast oooor making a little detour through the mountains, stopping wherever we like (like, Mori or somewhere along the River Oi or – depending how long it will take – even the River Fuji maybe we’ll be lucky and even see Mt. Fuji?.
On Izu Peninsula we want to stay in an Onsen and explore, hike and relax before going back to Tokyo, returning the car and saying goodbye to this beautiful country.

Here’s some things we are a bit insecure about:

are 10 days too long for Izu Peninsula?
Is taking the Ferry from Toba to Irago a realistic scenario? It would save us a lot of time on the road!
Is the drive along the Coast (Hamamatsu – Shizuoka) nice or rather stressful due to the cities?

Would love to hear your advice 🙂
