Hello, I’ve traveled a lot (including to Japan a few times) and usually “know what I’m doing,” but it just occurred to me I’ve never consulted this subreddit for much at all. I’m curious what people think of my itinerary and if there are any changes you’d make. Maybe I’ll learn something.
When: all of July
Who: me and my partner
Where: Tokyo, Aomori, and Hokkaido
WEEK 1: TOKYO
We will fly into HND and spend about a week in Tokyo. My partner has never been to Japan so we’ll try to see all the classic big Tokyo hits. She’s into art, photography, stickers etc. so we wanna check out sort of thing as much as possible too. Museums, art supply stores, etc.
WEEK 2: AOMORI
We’ll take the shinkansen up to Aomori and spend between 3 days and a week there (not sure yet). We don’t know too much about Aomori, but the prefecture has always been a little bucket list item for her. Any cool things to see or do there?
WEEKS 3-4: HOKKAIDO
This will be the signature part of the trip. We’re taking the shinkansen/conventional train up to Hokkaido, and staying in a cabin near southwestern Sapporo. We are also renting a campervan and will do a roadtrip up to Furano, Asahikawa, and then all the way up to Monbetsu for a view of the sea there. We’ll probably spend a night or two in each area so we don’t overexert ourselves, before coming back down to Sapporo the same route. I hear Hokkaido is very beautiful during the summer, so hoping for some nice countryside vistas.
That’s it. Feel free to provide any thoughts at all.
