  1. So they are planning on having this preinstalled on smartphones? An app that assumingly uploads all photos to their servers, scans them for what their software deems to be offensive, and then automatically deletes ones that are detected…
And they expect teens who want to take nude pics to not do any of the trivial workarounds to stop this app?
    Good luck.

  2. My penis gets mistaken for that of a child all the time 🙁 I can assure you I am a full grown, if not somewhat rotund adult though. Does this mean I will never be able to take dick pics? How will I woo Japanese women online with my pink Caucasian rod then? I am so disappointed.

  3. > Naoto Tomita, 24, co-founder of Smartbooks, said that his goal is for every child to download it to protect themselves, one shared by the Nakamura police.

There is an easy way to protect yourself. You just don’t take nude pictures of yourself.
This does not make much sense to make them download it voluntarily. If they did, that means they understand the risks of taking nude pictures and sharing it online already. If they understand the risks, then it’s already good, no need for the app. It’s not like you accidentally take nude pictures of yourself.
This could only work if instead it was pre-installed by default, and no way to remove it (at least without root). Still usually a bad idea, education is a much better way.
