Taking one unpaid leave day at Japanese company

I’ve been working at my current company for close to five months now, and am thinking of taking a single day off (first time taking time off) next month when some friends from overseas are coming to visit and will only be in my area on a weekday. The issue is that I haven’t received my paid leave yet (issued after six months), and it seems like a big no-no to request unpaid leave at Japanese companies. Anyone have any experience with this? Was thinking of giving a month’s notice and marking the leave type as 欠勤 and reason as 私用, but I’m not sure how that will go.
