Moving to Japan from the US while being Employed Under a US Company (Jan 2024)

Hello I want to thank anyone that responds starting off and would love any advice on this subject. Starting off for my situation I’ve currently been looking into moving to Japan over the past several years and have gotten more serious only recently. I do work for a that has given the approval for being able to move overseas and maintain my current employment.

Situation (Work)

My Current employer does have a office in Tokyo and was told that I wouldn’t need to change offices but due to the type of work I do (IT) but I would be able to work remote for the my current department being US Based as long as i could clock in EST time. I’ve been doing research on the Type of Work Visa’s that are required but i still am confused on which one would be appropriate for myself. I have been within my field for over 5 years. I would also love some insight on does a Work VISA mean in the sense would you have to work for a Japanese company or would that just be a “Certificate” allowing you to work within the country? Also would my employer need to Provided myself or Another Entity and type of documentation for a VISA even though my company has an establishment there?

COL (Cost of Living)

Any type of insight on personal opinion if anyone has moved from US to Japan would be appreciated. Im not entirely sure on what would be a decent amount for someone to make within Japan. Ive done some research on Avg COL but some of the data shown is to be a bit dated mainly before Covid. Currently I’m around 2800 for Rent (1 Bedroom, 1 Bath) + Car (350) and Car Insurance (250) and then Food for Monthly expenses. If i were to move i would Most likely sell my Vehicle. Would this be enough to sustain myself while there?

Thank you all in advance for any information and insight provided.
