Moving from South Korea to Japan to teach English

Hello everyone!

This is my first post, so I hope I’m not breaking any rules.

I taught English in Japan from late 2014 to mid 2019, stayed in Japan until September 2022 and now I’m back in the UK. Returned for family reasons.

I’m currently studying Korean and want to go to Korea first for a year or two before moving back to Japan to teach.

Has anyone here moved from Korea to Japan in recent years to teach, specifically eikaiwas, and was the visa process difficult? I read online that some eikaiwas now require a criminal background check (DBS). I didn’t need a DBS back in 2014.

Ideally I would love to just jump ship from Korea to Japan without having to come back to the UK to apply/get a background check. The flight from Korea to Japan would be so much cheaper and I’d save a lot of money.

There’s a Japanese embassy in Seoul so I was just hoping to apply to a school and do everything from Korea, but I’m not entirely sure if it’s possible.

Has anyone here ever made the jump?

If this is not the right place for this question, please point me in the right direction. Thank you.
