I live in Tokyo. So my apartment is on the 3rd floor of a 11 story high building. There’s about 75 apartments total.
I signed up for BB Excite MEC Hikari, and a guy from NTT East came and told me it’s VDSL only with 100mbps as the max speed.
So the modem got setup, I installed a proper router from TP-Link that supports DS-Lite. But my speeds seems to be a super consistent 78/68, be it Ethernet to the router, directly to the modem, or over wifi.
According to the manual that came in the box this VDSL modem only has a 100mbps ethernet port. I’m thinking maybe the modem is holding the speed back from hitting the potential 100/100? Is there a better VDSL modem that supports gigabit Ethernet?(the physical port not the download speed)? And if so how would I ask for one?
Ideally I’d like to have NTT install a direct fiber line to my apartment, the apartment management company told me I’m allowed to do any construction for internet lines as long as I’m not drilling out holes in the wall and suggested I pipe the fiber through the air conditioner access panel on my veranda that leads directly into my living room.
But I’m not sure how to ask for that’s. Or perhaps it’s too late because they already did the“construction”?
Any advice would be helpful thank you.
