I’m a photographer and this year I’d like to get back to making prints with a few historical processes. For these, though, I need a few chemicals that seem to be restricted in Japan. The most critical one I need is silver nitrate, but will also need gold chloride and sodium thiocyanate. There are people working with these chemicals and processes in Japan, so I know it’s possible to acquire them, but so far haven’t found a clear way of purchasing them.
Any of you have experience buying such things as an individual (not an institution)?
It’s also been put forth that importing them might be easier, but I’m still looking into regulations that might complicate that.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated
