Working and sending money home as a student

Hi, everyone!

I tried to look for information on the internet before coming here, but I couldn’t find anything regarding my specific situation. So first, some insight:

I’m moving to Japan on April as a MEXT scholar and I’m currently doing an online job teaching my native language on a website called italki, where the amount of time depends on how many students book a lesson (which is usually under 10 hours a week). This is completely freelance, I didn’t sign a contract or anything, and I was planning to keep this job after I moved so I could send some money home (because I’m the only one providing for my mom right now and she hasn’t been able to get a job in years).

So, I’ve been looking for information about part-time jobs in Japan and some websites say you’re not allowed to work during the first six months after arriving, and others say that if you fill in the form before arriving and get it stamped at the airport you can start working right away, so I wanted to know which one is true, or if they’re both true? I don’t know.

Also, I read in the Study in Japan website that students can’t work to save money or remit money overseas, but I couldn’t find information about this anywhere besides the one sentence mentioned in this website. So, is this true?

In my case, I get paid through Paypal and then use a service to get it deposited to my bank account (in my home country), so I’m also not sure if I’d be allowed to do this or if I’d have to pay taxes, since this money will not be used in Japan at all.

Technically, I guess I could keep the job and not tell anyone about it, because of the few hours I work and it being online, but I’m in no way risking losing the scholarship over this, so I’m not planning on hiding me doing this job. I just want to know if you guys know anymore information that could be relevant to me.

PS. Please let me know if there’s a more appropriate subreddit where I can post this, in case this isn’t the right place.
