Paying for bills at the convenience store in card?

Hello, has anyone tried paying for rent at the convenience store using a foreign card? It seems like most bills with QR codes require you to pay in cash? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

  1. You can only pay in cash.

If you want to avoid having to take out cash, you could use PayPay app to do the bills, but to enable bill paying you need to link a domestic bank account (or topup with cash), and before that, pass eKYC verification. While PayPay allows linking some (limited) foreign credit cards, you cannot use that as a payment source for scanned bills. Have to “topup” from bank account or by using cash, then pay.

I think at 7/11 you can use nanaco card to pay bills, but, it can only be recharged from the 7/11 credit card. (Again, doesn’t help your problem).

  2. If you want to pay at a conbini you have to pay with cash. If you want to use a credit card to pay for utility, sign up for automatic payment on the utility company’s website.

  3. I’ve found if you opt for monthly credit billing instead of conbini pay they’ll let you use foriegn cards.

  4. I have a Nanaco linked to a credit card on autocharge. That way you can basically pay by card.
