For those who’ve learned Chinese before Japanese (or vice versa), how difficult is it to get accustomed to the other language’s characters?

I’m considering learning Japanese since I’m already relatively proficient in Chinese (HSK4) and I’m quite excited to do the “laddering” method.

I am aware that the two languages have significant grammatical differences, but I have noticed some similarities between Hanzi and Kanji. So far, the main differences I have seen are discrepancies in radicals and some words having different meanings in each language. For instance, in Chinese “èµ°” means ‘walk’ while in Japanese it means ‘run’.

To clarify, I can read simplified Hanzi. For any of those who know Japanese and Chinese, have you found the transition to be difficult?
