Does the BoE file tax returns for your last year as JET? (staying in Japan & working part-time)

(using a throwaway account)

I left JET last month. My BoE paid my remaining residence tax up-front from my last paycheck. I moved cities and started working as a babysitter while I look for a full-time job. (I have a valid work visa.)

I believe Japanese companies don’t file your tax returns for you if you don’t work for them at the end of the year, but I can’t find any guidance/instructions on how to deal with tax returns after leaving JET.

People who leave Japan after JET don’t need to worry about filing tax returns for their last year, right? What about people who stay in Japan? Has anyone else been in this situation, and how did you deal with it?

Thank you!
