So I’m looking to go to Kyushu sometime in mid April. I plan to mostly travel by train, but the sightseeing spots are spread all over the island, so I am trying to figure out the jigsaw puzzle on where to go each day and how many days it will take (I’m thinking around 11 days total but can be plus/minus a day).
The gist is as below, but I honestly don’t have an idea of how long it takes in each area, it feels like it’s quite packed even though I’m laying out out for 11 days. Any suggestions welcome. For food, I do have some restaurants in mind but also recommendations would be welcome.
An alternative would be to just do northern Kyushu with a looser schedule (so Kumamoto > Aso > Beppu instead of going down to Kagoshima), then head to Hiroshima after a day’s rest in Fukuoka and check out the Hiroshima atomic bomb site + Itsukushima shrine and head back to Kyushu after a day’s rest.
**Day 1 – Fukuoka**
* Arrive in Fukuoka, likely in afternoon or night
* Hakata station area
* Hakata Mizutaki Hamadaya Kouten for lunch/dinner
* Canal City (if can’t then might push to day 11)
**Day 2 – Also Fukuoka**
* Ohori Park

* Either Ichiran or Shin Shin ramen
* Tenjin area

**Day 3 – Dazaifu/Yanagawa**
* Dazaifu area including Kyushu museum
* Yanagawa + Yanagawa eel
**Day 4 – Nagasaki**
* Check out from Fukuoka
* Daihachi (Champon noodles)
* Gunkanjima
* Glover Garden
* Mt. Inasayama
* Check in Nagasaki
**Day 5 – Wider Nagasaki area + Kumamoto**
* Check out from Nagasaki
* Nagasaki Penguin Aquarium (I might skip this as it’s in a different direction)
* Nagasaki Atomic Bomb site area
* Sasebo (99 islands)
* Sasebo hamburger
* Train to Kumamoto
* Check in at Kumamoto
**Day 6 – Kumamoto**
* Kumamoto castle
* Suizenji park
* Katsuretsu Tei
**Day 7 – Mount Aso + Kagoshima**
* Check out from Kumamoto
* Mount Aso
* Mount Aso back to Kumamoto and head to Kagoshima
* Check in at Kagoshima
**Day 8 – Kagoshima**
* Sakurajima
* Shiroyama observation deck
**Day 9 – Miyazaki area + Beppu**
* Check out from Kagoshima
* Train to Miyazaki area
* Devil’s washboard + Aoshima shrime
* Sea cross + Umagase in Hyuga
