Is spending one week in Fukuoka in the same hotel a good idea? Is it easy to do nice day trips from fukuoka and is there a lot to explore in fukuoka itself?

  1. Fukuoka is one of the major cities on Kyushu. You should be fine for a week. If you have a car you can probably do a few day trips in northern Saga, Oita and Kumamoto depending on where you are.

  2. Been to Fukuoka a few times. Honestly less exciting than other cities. You would need to drive to do day trips.

I would suggest taking everything to the next location, like Beppu for a couple or few days.

  3. You go to dazaifu, then few other temples in the Hakata area. Unironically this is about 70% of the tourism in Fukuoka which you can visit in 2 days at most. Between those visits you’ll probably eat local foods (like udon, ramen and motsu).

IMO one week is too long in Fukuoka, I recommend staying one or two nights, then explore other prefecture in Kyushu

  4. Nope, a couple of days at max is enough for Fukuoka. And there are a lot of places in Kyushu that will be hard to visit through day trips from Fukuoka.

  5. If you can….rent a car, drive to nagasaki and then across to beppu…visiting stuff in between.

  6. Itoshima is nearby. I did a day trip to the couples stones using train + bus and it was worth it.

  7. I’ve been to Fukuoka quite a few times (living in Korea, it’s just a short ferry ride over)

I’d say a week is too long just for Fukuoka. If it was your base for 4-5 days you’d be fine. Few days in city exploring and 1-2 little day trips nearby (Dazaifu or Itoshima to see the seaside torii) then go to Beppu or Oita for a little onsen trip. Kumamoto and Nagasaki also aren’t too far away by train either.

  8. Had a 30 day trip around Japan last May, spent 3 nights in Fukuoka and honestly could’ve done 4 nights/3 whole days but there’s not all that much around.
Dazaifu, the remains of their castle, and the city park and then just exploring the amazing food there is really all i did – i didn’t really get any recommendations from my close friend that grew up there and she said 2 days is more than enough… She was right.
I would go back for the food though!

Like everyone else, i highly recommend touring other parts of Kyushu as well rather than only staying in FUK.

  9. i stayed in a hostel in hakata in fukuoka for a month and didn’t run out of things to do. Nokonoshima Island is a quick ferry ride & a beautiful
area with beaches and a hilltop view, with a small museum & a large aquarium. the Kyushu National Museum is worth a trip as well & a nice day out of town, with Daizafu Tenmangu close by it. Fukuoka Tower & the Sciene Museum are cool.

I spent a lot of the days just stopping at different subway stops around the city & walking around for the day. You’ll hear about Canal City, Ohori Park, Tenjin Underground Mall.

I loved it personally & would definitely go back.

  10. Too long if you are just doing Fukuoka/Hakata area.
Will be enough if you do long daytrips.
I spent 3 days in this region (same hotel in Hakata) and wished i stayed a bit more just because of the daytrips i had.

1 daytrip to Nagasaki (shinkansen). Full day excursion

1 day to do short trips to nanzoin and dazaifu

1 day to do everything Hakata

I wanted to visit kitakyushu, Oita, and tsushima but didnt have enough time.

Staying in the same hotel is ok because of train availability. I hate moving in and out and its a waste of vacation time.
