Haircut for curly hair men – Toyko

Good evening lifers, haven’t seen any recent posts about good hair salon recommendations for a good haircut for non straight here recently. I’m in the Tokyo area and it doesn’t matter if it’s in English or Japanese. I’d love to know where you guys are getting your cuts, cause after almost 3 years here I still haven’t found a decent place. If it helps I’m just looking for a simple fade..

  1. I do it myself with a simple, corded Wahl clipper (~¥1500). I recommend it if you’re the DIY type.

Start a Zoom meeting between your phone & your tablet / laptop. Use your phone’s rear facing (better) camera and point it at the back of your head. It helps if you have a phone holder or a tripod.

On the tablet/laptop screen you’ll be seeing exactly what you’re doing to the back of your head. Start with the longer guards, work your way down to shorter ones. Lots of video guides out there.

  2. I don’t have curly hair, but my stylist does lots of curly hair for both Japanese and foreigners. His name is Ryojin out of the Brown’s in Nishi Ogikubo. He also worked in the US for a while and speaks passable English.
