Struggling with my Japanese thesis project

So, I’ve been studying a bachelor of Japanese (linguistics) and it’s time to my thesis research project (I think it’s what would be considered an Honors degree?). Because I decided to do a field-study style project for my data collection, I have to actually get people to participate, but…cue the crickets.

I’ve asked everyone in my uni servers (both my home uni and my exchange uni in Japan) but people just read the request and move on. The survey is only \~5mins, I’ve posted on social media and messaged people directly, I’ve even made some hand-made signs to put up in some shops that cater to foreigners. The survey is as un-daunting as I could make it. But so far it hasn’t gained traction *at all*.

I’m just a poor student so can’t afford one of those services where you spend money to send the survey to people, is there a better way to get people to actually interact? I’m pretty behind on the schedule because I’ve been juggling my full-time exchange on top of my thesis course plus part-time work, and don’t want to tell my supervisor that I won’t be able to produce results/won’t be able to continue the course because I didn’t get the data (the pilot study got 3x the number of participants in a single day so I’m not sure what’s going on).

The study is on how L2 Japanese learners (people learning Japanese when it’s not their native language) understand and utilise polite speech styles: [https://forms.office.com/e/V4Gx6ddLsi](https://forms.office.com/e/V4Gx6ddLsi)

If anyone could help out it would be appreciated, I just want to get data 🙁
