Is it necessary to practice writing kanji to remember stroke order, if I don’t plan on learning to write Japanese?

I’d mainly like to speak and read Japanese—for watching and reading Japanese media, and speaking it when I travel there. I don’t really see a reason to learn to write, however people say it’s very necessary to learn Kanji Stroke order as this helps you recognize the kanji, especially if it’s handwritten. Thoughts?

Edit: thanks a lot for the replies everyone, sorry I can’t reply to them all!

It seems pretty unanimous that writing them helps you remember them when reading, so I probably will. Thanks a lot.
