Should I memorize how to write all Kanji or look to recognize them?

Hi, I’ve been leaning Japanese for about a year and a half now and, side over analyzing nuances and what not, it’s been really sweet to me so far. The thing that’s been kind of bugging me is Kanji. I know a decent amounttof Kanji for how long I’ve been learning, but is my way of learning the excessive?

Should I learn them so that I recognize them? Or should I learn them so that I can write them off at will?

I mean, I see myself ever handwriting Kanji, my keyboard will just pop up kanji I select from…

Or do I try to get both?
