Need Some Advice about High School in Japan

Hello everyone, I’m a US Freshman Student needing some help with the process and feasibility of studying either second, third, or both terms without a Japanese exchange program. Saw a bunch of posts about this but none of them really gave answers other than “no”. I plan to do this my junior year (so two years from now). I talked to my school about it and they seem ok with it too.

Background information that I think would be important:Japanese: 2 years of study + can write kanji + will be studying it for another 2 years.Academics: should be fine, I’ve been doing dual enrollment at a UC nearby for two years as well. I see a lot of posts saying it will “ruin education/sat scores” but i self-study anyway and have already taken the sat. In japan however, I want to attend a local high school.Housing: I was wondering if it was possible to stay at an apartment, but I heard it’s difficult to rent out to a minor or someone not living in Japan…?

so yeah I’m just wondering if there’s any advice on how to start the process (how to choose a school and stuff like that.

Thank you!

edit: I think this has pretty much been answered, thank you to everyone who helped out.
tl;dr: no
in short terms: need student visa -> exchange program or school sponsor but which would be very hard to get if not an university.
