Obtaining Prescription Medication

Hey everyone, I’m moving to Akita in August for my studies, but need some advice on obtaining prescription medication while I’m there. The university recommends bringing enough medication to last the whole year, but as a type 1 diabetic that sounds pretty infeasible. It would mean bringing over thousands of needles, 14 boxes of glucose sensors and many insulin cartridges. I am from the UK and I do not even know if the NHS would allow me to order so much medication anyway. The university recommends this because to obtain prescription medication requires a diagnosis by a Japanese doctor, which can take a few weeks to process.

Has anyone been through a similar situation? In my head I see no issue in bringing a few months of medication over (which I know will also need some forms to be completed), and then as soon as possible going through the process of being re-diagnosed and then just get prescribed diabetes medication in Japan instead.

I might be completely off base, so any advice is greatly appreciated!! Thank you
