anyone else have trouble with font size in japanese novels?

i recently cracked open a japanese paperback i bought a while back (Tsugumi by Banana Yoshimoto) and i’m experiencing a lot of eyestrain while reading. i don’t have this issue in english… is it something i’ll get used to? any tips?
