Mystery novels in Japan predating Europe?

Do I recently became to know that Auguste C. Dupin (courtesy Edgar Allen Poe) is considered the first fictional detective in the world (~1800s). This is roughly after Eugene Francois Vidocq, the person considered to be the first real life detective. The timing here is roughly late 1700s, early 1800s.

This seems kind of bonkers to me. We’re people before that time not interested in something that resembling stories about someone who used logical reasoning and tenacity (for a lackof a better word) to solve a mystery?

Now the reason for posting this in this group; does anyone know of any japanese mystery stories that predate the 1700s.

Also what other cultures do u think could be the best candidate for mystery stories predating Allen Poe a d definitely Sherlock.
