Difference between ないで and なくて

I have been trying to brush up on N4 on Bunpro and these ones have been confusing me. They both mean “not ~ and ~” in English but they have situations where one is more right than the other. I have read up that なくて has a bit more relationship to the second part of the sentence, but I have also seen examples where this isn’t the case. I have also seen where the first or second part of a sentence isn’t a full idea, thus causing the use of なくて but it’s not a full coverage answer. Any help with these two would be really helpful!
