Hello!
This upcoming Wednesday, I’ll be leaving for Japan and I’m excited, but extremely intimated about figuring out plans. I’ve got some of my trip planned, so here’s what I got.
I’ll be spending 6 days at Taito City.
Landing on the 9th 3:35 PM, gonna pull out most of my money from 7-11 ( I got $3K and using Charles Schwab to avoid fees ). Going to stock up on snacks for the AirBnB, eat at a local restaurant, and end the night with some drinking at an izakaya.
10th I’m thinking of visiting the aquarium ( Sumida ) after eating, Sensō-ji, and then dedicating the day to exploring Ikebukuro with some light shopping, and then ending the night at either the Samurai Bar or Jazz Spot!
11th most of the day is dedicated to a massive toy festival called Winter WonderFest and then spending the late afternoon/nighttime bar hopping with some friends.
12th Visiting Awaji Island which is going to take up the entire day
13th figure shopping. Heading to a handful of Mandarake shops that are nearby, then to the Godzilla Store and Tamashii Store in Tokyo. Thinking I can also squeeze in visiting Hibiya afterward. For this day, I’m not sure if I should rent an electric bike or just take the trains. Meeting up with another friend in Japan who’s going to show us some of his favorite bars
14th I’m still lost on and I’m also torn on another idea.
There’s the Sapporo Snow Festival happening and it ends on the 11th, so I could go on the 10th, but I don’t see any efficient way to go to Sapporo and come back to Tokyo/Taito City that same day without breaking the bank. I could fly, but tickets for same day flight and return cost is $1k and the bullet train take about 8 hours to get there ( from what I saw ) so I think I’ll just have to skip, unless I’m just looking in the wrong places?
I’m also thinking I could dedicate the 14th to visiting Osaka? Does anybody have any recommendations on what I could do for that day?
Also, I’m wondering since I’m not really going to be using the trains extensively and staying for about a week, if I could just rely on my AMEX credit card to buy train tickets?
