I just moved to a house in Yomitan area and wondering how to get local Japanese cable, shows like NHK? I see aerial antennae and dishes on roof. I need cable so can get English translation service. Is the only cable available by dish? What are services available?

I use Okinawa Cable Network (OCN).
Related question: is there still free broadcast TV and would I be able to pick it up with an American TV? Tried plugging the antenna cable in and having it search for channels but not sure if I did it right
Good timing. Just had to do this. If you have a new japanese tv the tuber is already installed. If you have an American TV go to denki at AV Aeon Mall and go to the DVR section. The DVR will have a tuner in. You’ll need a antenna cable also a satellite (if you live in an apartment or maybe house check your outlets. You may see a little circle with a cover on it. If you do congrats you your building has satellite already installed)
You’re looking for a terrestrial digital tuner.
I have my landlord install an antenna on the roof. My TV is Samsung I got from the PX, has only a a US tuner.
Seems I need a Japan tuner with b-cas card installed for BS/CS channels. Look at this one from Amazon.co.jp does the trick…
