JLPT N5 or 150 hours requirement for Japanese school

Hello,

I applied to a Japanese school a few months ago for the April intake. It says on their website that it is mandatory to justify of 150 hours of Japanese, or to have passed JLPT N5. Before admission I had an interview with the staff and said that I had neither JLPT N5 nor followed 150 hours of Japanese (only a bit less than 100). They told me that it was not necessary as I was coming from Europe, and I was accepted by the school. However I read everywhere that it is now a requirement from the Japanese immigration especially when older than 30 (I’m almost 40).

Do you think my COE will be rejected even if the school told me that it doesn’t matter ? Has someone been in a similar situation ?

Thanks
