I’ve read conflicting reports: can I bring food and drinks to the sumo event today?

UPDATE:
While our bags were not checked prior to entering, there was a sign outside the arena advertising ‘no outside food or drinks’.
Honestly, beers sake and food was all priced fairly cheap by NA standard. 500 yen for a large Asahi, 800 yen for large bottle of sake. No need to mule in drinks or snacks, just buy inside.
