I am a freelancer and have been paying my own (National) health insurance. Spouse is a seishain and company pays for her health insurance. I just renewed my spouse visa and this time the city hall put us onto the same household (?). We were already married in Japan and were living together. I’m not sure why they didn’t do this when I applied for the first spousal visa (change of status from a work visa). Anyway, because of this, now my spouse got a new health insurance payment slip under her name. I’m a little confused, since her company should still be paying for her, and I’ve been paying (auto-withdrawal) up to this point. If this means I am under her head of household or something, if I apply for PR, how can I prove to immigration that I’m paying my health insurance if it’s not in my name? Spouse and I tried both tried calling city hall but it’s quite confusing. If this has happened to anyone, do you know why? Thanks for any help. (Cross posted in japanlife)
