There are a few reasons why I’m here. I’m an Italian 31 years old man with a master’s degree in food science/food safety and a qualification in quality management systems, but the only jobs I’m getting here are underpaid and I feel stale. I studied Japanese at level N5 just because I loved doing it, but now I’m considering moving to Japan to shake things up in my life and possibly get to work in the field I studied.
The island where I’m from (Sardinia) seems to have a lot in common with Okinawa: distant from the mainland, same population, beaches, tourism, distinct cultural identity, laid back and friendly people, strong traditions and even longevity blue zones and military occupation lol. I feel like I would fit in even if it’s on the other side of the world, am I too naif? Climate is actually the main reason for preferring Okinawa since I get sick too frequently during cold winters, I also don’t care much about isolation and crazy summer + typhoon seasons.
Are there any chances to get a sponsorship and apply for a working visa from overseas? Or should I apply for a student visa and study Japanese there working a part-time job in the meanwhile before trying to get sponsored? Should I choose Tokyo or Osaka instead? Any tips are appreciated!
