I had a verrrry fancy meal at Suetomo that was vegan. I didn’t arrange it, the fancy local people who invited me did. No idea if it’s a standard option or requires significant hoop jumping or connections.
The best yet !!! Tu Casa based in Higashiyama, love it there. Everything is so nice ! Moreover, you can find a lovely vegan tea house named Mandaracha which is a 5 minutes walk from Tu Casa to complete your day ☺️
There is a really nice tofu restaurant in Arayashima. Right where there is the little garden of all the Buddha statues. And it’s nice because you look out on to a Japanese garden. Fixed menu. Delicious.
Edit: two out of these three has a bib gourmand, so not high end per se but definitely culinary memories I will treasure for the rest of my life. I’m a bit surprised that people suggest izakayas and okonomiyaki when you asked for fine dining.

For high-end vegetarian cuisine in Kyoto, you’re talking about Shojin Ryori, and the standard high-end recommendation is Daitokuji Ikkyu.
Check out Ajiro.
[Gion Tanto](https://maps.app.goo.gl/gsyJiDSQusUGe1hx5) is my go-to when meeting up with vegetarian friends from out of town.

mumokuteki cafe is my favorite!
Here’s three unforgettable vegan experiences:
– vegan ramen uzu (ramen)
– awomb (sushi)
– tenryu-ji shigetsu (shojin ryori)
Edit: two out of these three has a bib gourmand, so not high end per se but definitely culinary memories I will treasure for the rest of my life.

Incredible experience and food!
i’m not completely vegetarian but unfortunately i do understand that a lot of these places will be more on the higher end.
