Hello,
We made an appointment to go to the Japanese consulate in NYC to register our US marriage. We will be heading back to Japan later this year with the intention of me (American) transitioning status to a spouse visa. We are reading that the US marriage cert needs to be translated before going to the consulate, is that true? Does anyone have experience with this? Can I just use an online service to translate the document?
Also, would it be easier to just have her mother go to the local government office in Osaka to register it for us?
