Moving (back) to Japan

tl;dr – Lived in Japan for \~8 years, moved to Canada last year but want to go back to Japan. Just hoping to get some insights and have a chat with someone who has been through something similar.

I have a very specific situation and a lot of questions related to it. It might be hard to get a straight answer from a single source so I am just hoping to get some insight from the community.
situation – I (31M) and my wife (27F) were in Japan for a a good few years (\~8 Years, wife for a year and a half) but I was too lazy (and lacking foresight) to apply for a PR there. Recently we moved to Canada from Japan (\~June ’23) for work but we miss our life and friends there terribly. Basically not able to make any attachments to this country and already finding it hard to adjust here (not financially, just psycologically and emotionally), so we are planning on moving back to Japan as soon as we hit the 1 year mark here and settle down. I believe (and strongly hope) I will be able to get a work visa and move there again.
questions/requests
1. Anybody else with a similar moving out and then back to Japan experience. Would really appreciate a chat to get more perspective.
2. I haven’t applied for a pension lump-sum refund yet, but I am thinking of applying it anyway, just looks like an easy way to start from scratch when we get to move back instead of getting into totalization and other stuff – thoughts?
3. I hope to apply for PR this time, how badly does this track-record affect our PR application? My taxes for the time I was there were all filed correctly and never had any missed health insurance premiums but not sure if that would count if we start from scratch.
4. My wife has a diploma (not a 4 year degree), and 3 years of experience in travel industry and most recently worked as a freelance UI/UX design; as a dependent I believe she will be able to work part-time, any options that she can switch to a fulltime role?

Thanks 🙂
